Psst. I'm Over Here and I Have Some Answers

Greetings my lil bloggies!

I had decided to take a break so that I could do a little research into one of the charities I suggested in my last blog:  raisingmalawi.org

A question had popped up about some controversy surrounding the organization and I wanted to ensure I had the appropriate answer.  According to The Maravi Post, Madonna's foundation is being sued by 8 "sacked" employees after [she] realized that her school, in which Madonna donated $11,000,000 of her own funds to, would only be able to help 500 girls go forward with their education.

Madonna now states that the foundation wants to focus heavily on building schools in communities across the poverty-stricken country....not just one school for 500 girls.

MTV UK also noted in the article that the 8 "sacked" employees had allegedly used over $3,500,000 of that money for their own "good," including cars with drivers, homes, etc.

The "reasoning" behind the lawsuit against Madonna's Raising Malawi organization is that the workers claimed that they were being forced to sign a "discriminatory" form in order to receive their "terminal" or final pay.  According to sources close to Madonna, the form is a simple "confidentiality" form.  If that's the case, that is very typical of all top stars.  It is used commonly with most employees of major stars.

For now, I believe you should NOT donate to Raising Malawi UNTIL this is resolved.  However, don't lose hope on Madonna.  She is a very smart business lady.

There are plenty of charities you can find in your own towns and cities.  I have found a new charity that has created a soft spot in my heart.  Please go to the site and look around.  Make a small donation of $10 to help the organization get off the ground.  I put my money where my mouth is.  I donated to the site first.  Please donate to myAIDS.org .

Their heart is in the right place.  They've already done a lot on their own WITHOUT donations.  So, its time to start helping them.  I implore you to visit the site.

Until AFTER my expected fabulous weekend of Kylie and Kevin (Tiny Bubbles, Jean Nate), I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Looking Forward To Another Tomorrow...

Hello my little advocates!  It's been awhile.  I am so sorry for the delay; but, I've had to take this past week to think about me....remember what I keep telling you to do too?

At this very moment, your blogster is setting plans for forward-moving with life, work and love.  As you all know, I am a driven, ambitious blogster who wishes for all those around him to succeed at everything.  If you don't, nor have I.

What plans are you thinking about?
  1. Volunteering for Aid for AIDS of Nevada (or, if you don't live in Nevada your own AIDS charity)
  2. Going to the gym to get the negativity "worked out" of your body
  3. Sitting there, thinking about all the negatives and getting depressed
I like number 1 and number 2.  I think they are a great fit for YOU....all of YOU.  If it isn't charity for AIDS work, do it for the environment.  Do it for Japan quake victims.  Just do it.

As for the gym, it IS true that when you work out, you are happier, less stressed and more ambitious than ever.

Below I've listed a few websites you might want to look at for more ideas:

raisingmalawi.org     afanlv.org     amfar.org

saveourenvironment.org      nphy.org     thecenterlv.org

MY new favorite (next to afanlv.org):  dabtheaidsbearproject.com

Those are just a few.  If you need more ideas, let me know.  Comment.  I will respond.  Remember, becoming more involved helps dissolve anxiety issues and depression issues.

Your little blogster,

Kavin

My Fair Lady And Living Positively

The rain in Spain happens mostly in the plains....or whatever it is.......

Doesn't this movie make you smile?  It makes me smile and makes me love life.  I also love Priscilla, Queen of the Desert....it all starts out so sad; but, somewhere in the middle, something great happens....love and life.

When you are down, pick up your favorite movie, book, cd.....anything that reminds you good times.  The bad times will subside.  Remember, what goes down must come up at some point.  Don't let the down keep you down.

Love YOUR life and, as my partner said the other day, pretend you are on the airplane and the oxygen masks drop down...."put your mask on so that you may better assist others."

The perfect metaphor for life, eh?

A Day to Celebrate with AFAN!

With Downtown Fremont Street as a backdrop, the AFAN AIDS WALK went off to a great big bang, with over 8,000 people participating to help the 3500+ people living in Las Vegas with HIV/AIDS.  From entertainers like Hal Sparks (Queer As Folk), the Jersey Boys and the Grand Marshals of the AIDS WALK for the 10th consecutive year, Penn & Teller, it was definitely the place to be!

I met Angel Porrino from Holly's World (also Holly's understudy from Peepshow) and I saw Lara Croft from Holly's World.  I was a bit confused by their team tees, which read "TEAM TOILET" but, hey, it was a day to have fun.  Angel, herself, is such a nice person.  Too bad the girls (that no one knew) around her were so rude.  I was confused because of their cast mate, Josh Strickland, had named his team Strickly Strollin'.  One would think Lara and Angel would have been on his team.  Perhaps he wasn't enthused with the Toilet Team motif.  Who knows?

Yours truly had his name called out on stage.  Number 6 fundraiser out of 8,000!  Next year, we shoot for Number 1.  The walk was a bit challenging, with myself, Yitzee, Oscar and Dab the Aids Bear courtesy of dabtheaidsbearproject.com and Dab Garner of Wilton Manors, Florida.

Gene, my partner, could not make it as our wonderful friend was hospitalized and Gene needed to be with him.  Thank you all for your thoughts on my facebook page.  Now, on to "Country Strong," which is actually good!
